launch of a Spanish version of its popular FitBuy.com superstore.
With an eventual selection of more than 6,000 fitness products in categories
which include books, clothing, equipment, footwear, magazines, and videos,
FitBuy.com En Espanol (www.fitbuy.com/espanol) will have one of the largest
and most complete selections of fitness products and content anywhere and
in any language.
Unlike many sites that include partial "translations," FitBuy.com
En Espanol will be a 100% Spanish site with everything from product descriptions
to customer service information written by native Spanish speakers. Even product
options such as sizes and colors will be in Spanish.
The announcement of FitBuy.com En Espanol comes on the heals of other recent
announcements by Pierpoint-Martin of e-commerce deals with partners including
nutritional supplement giant General Nutrition Corp. and direct marketing
powerhouse Encore Marketing.
"In order to stay ahead of the game, we always need to offer our partners
more," said Pierpoint-Martin Senior VP Ed Gaut. "I expect that many
of our partners will want to take advantage of our ability to provide e-commerce
content and services in Spanish as well as English. As with any market and
any business, if you don't speak the language, you can't do much business."
In keeping with that philosophy, Pierpoint-Martin is also developing a team
of telephone and e-mail customer service representatives fluent in both English
and Spanish.
"The U.S. Spanish-speaking market is large and growing," said Gaut,
who is himself of Puerto Rican descent. "However, there is still a lack
of high-quality Spanish language Internet sites, especially e-commerce sites.
By providing Spanish versions of our own sites as well
as many of our partners' sites, we intend to change this."
